Did the SSC Tuatara finally set a new 300 MPH+ top speed record?

Back in 2020, SSC North America received a lot of flak after their botched top speed record attempt in the Tuatara hypercar. It seems the company is now going for it once again.

The SSC Tuatara has now featured in a new teaser video released by the brand, which hints at possible top speed record run. The short clip keeps us guessing as the on-board camera only shows the test driver stepping out of the car.

You may have seen the infamous video of the SSC Tuatara, in which the car allegedly hit 331 mph. The video was soon debunked, and it was found that the cay may have actually reached just 224 mph – nowhere close to the 305 mph record set by the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+. That being said, we might see the SSC Tuatara beat the Bugatti’s record in a few hours from now.

The Tuatara is powered by a 5.9-liter, twin-turbo V8 engine that delivers 1350 hp on 91-octane. On E85, the overall output jumps to 1750 hp. With more power and less weight to lug around, in theory, it should be able to beat the Bugatti.
